Codec Support in VoIP Devices
Each voice over IP client will usually support a number of codecs. Most clients support G.711 as well as a few others. Free clients (ie., the freeware soft-phones) will generally not contain any patented codecs which require payment of a royalty license. The following table aims to provide a list of devices (with the latest available firmware from their respective manufacturer) and the codecs they support. A brief overview of the various codecs is also available.
